While Middletown Area School District students enjoyed their summer break, Prismworks Technology was busy making sure technology systems were ready for the next school year.
In May 2024, Prismworks began work on a refresh for the school district’s vSphere environment. Nick Wright, Prismworks Technology Implementation Engineer & Technical Lead, spearheaded efforts to replace two vSphere hypervisors and one HPE storage appliance (SAN) with new equipment. The project also required migrating existing virtual machines and data to the new equipment, upgrading all software, and configuring the old equipment for disaster recovery purposes.
Middletown Area School District serves over 2,300 students and about 330 staff members. Maintaining and updating technology equipment is crucial to student, teacher, and administrative faculty productivity.
“Much like for-profit business, all critical information for a school district to operate is now contained on virtual infrastructure. This equipment must stay up-to-date and covered by warranty and support contracts to ensure continued functionality and operation of the entire school district,” said Wright.
For many school districts, most major technology upgrades can only be performed while school is not in session, creating a rush to complete work within just three months. Prismworks overcomes the challenge of time by planning project milestones before work even begins. Prismworks also prioritizes coordination with onsite staff and brings extensive experience in performing major work while causing minimal disruption to users.
Backed by advanced planning and decades of experience, Prismworks is on track to wrap up all technology updates by mid-August before the Blue Raiders return to the classroom. The new hardware will offer greater efficiency, allow existing workloads to operate at lower recurring costs, and allow future expansion without requiring additional hardware.
“The district can focus on its goal of educating the next generation, resting assured that their technical infrastructure can support this goal well into the future,” confirmed Wright.
